Panama Convention Center Highlights Sustainable Commitments

Panama City, December 12, 2023 -  With the aim of highlighting the sustainable efforts of prominent companies in the Republic of Panama, the Panama Convention Center (PCC) is proud to host the Sustainable Leadership Recognition event of the American Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Panama (AmCham), welcoming about 100 visitors and 30 companies at national and international level.

It is important to highlight that the center is making significant progress in its commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint. Throughout the year, the PCC has implemented various sustainable actions in its facilities, demonstrating a proactive approach in this area. These initiatives range from the installation of 6 chargers for electric vehicles to the prohibition of the use of plastic bottles, replacing them with Tetra Pak cardboard containers. This commitment reflects the PCC's continued efforts on its path towards sustainability.

In addition, a significant investment has been made in energy efficiency, including the placement of approximately 5000 meters of tinted paper on the façade of the building to reduce thermal load. A dynamic and efficient comprehensive solid waste management program, equipped with areas for waste collection and classification, reinforces PCC's commitment to sustainability.

Rodolfo Del Valle, General Director of the PCC, emphasized: "At the Panama Convention Center, we understand the importance of leading by example. By hosting events like the AmCham Sustainable Leadership Recognition, we not only celebrate the actions of prominent companies, but "We also reaffirm our daily commitment to sustainable practices. We are committed to continuing to implement measures that contribute to the preservation of the environment and the construction of a more sustainable future."

The AmCham event aims to recognize member companies in two categories: Large Companies and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Although the PCC does not participate nor is nominated, its role as host highlights its commitment to being a leading space in sustainable practices in Panama.

PCC's commitment to sustainability will continue by implementing a "zero plastic" policy at the center by 2024. This initiative involves the complete elimination of plastic in paper, cups, plates and other utensils intended for food service and beverages, replacing them with completely recyclable and biodegradable materials. This step forward demonstrates the centre's firm determination to adopt greener practices and foster a more sustainable environment.
